Percentage Dyeing Workshop

Percentage Dyeing Workshop
Saturday and Sunday, October 24 + 25, 2015
9am - 3pm each day
$250 (includes all supplies)

924 E. 5th St, Kansas City, MO 64106

In this intense two day workshop you will learn Percentage Dyeing, a precise method of dyeing fabric that produces consistent, reproducible colors on any amount of fabric. This workshop is for anyone that already knows how to dye fabric but wants to gain more control over their use of dye. Percentage Dyeing is a system of dyeing in which the weight of dye used is proportional to the weight of fabric. It can be an intimidating skill to learn, but is also a valuable tool to have in your skill set. I will break down the system into easy to understand steps. By the end of the workshop you will be able to confidently match any color with dye and scale up or down your recipes as needed. In this workshop we will be using Procion Fiber Reactive MX dye - a wash-fast and light-fast dye that is suitable for all types of plant based fabrics and silk

Dye + Sew: Hand Dyed Linden Sweatshirt

Dye + Sew: Hand Dyed Linden Sweatshirt
September 25 - 27, 2015
Friday 9/25, 6 - 8pm
Saturday 9/26, 10am - 2pm
Sunday 9/26, 10am - 2pm
$269 (includes all supplies)

In this fun 2 1/2 day workshop I'm pairing up with Jaime David (Bernina master and garment sewing expert) to bring you the joy of creating your own hand dyed and sewn Grainline Linden sweatshirt. No prior experience dyeing or sewing is required (though some sewing knowledge will be really helpful). We will be teaching you how to dye knits, follow a pattern, and use a serger to construct a simple garment.

On Friday (over drinks and snacks) we will discuss sewing with knits, how to determine your size, and show examples of dyed Lindens so you can make a plan for your own.

On Saturday I will cover basic dyeing techniques for knits and garments and we will cut out our pattern pieces. On Sunday, Jaime will discuss how to use a serger and how to sew knits on a home sewing machine and then guide you through sewing your own Linden. Sergers will be provided.

The workshop fee includes all supplies - heavy knit fabric, dye, the Linden Sweatshirt pattern, and thread. If you already have the Linden pattern, use coupon code "linden" to get $16 off your workshop price and then bring your pattern with you.

If you're not familiar with Grainline Patterns, check them out here: http://shop.grainlinestudio.com/. They are some of my favorite patterns because they are really well written, easy to follow, and the clothes look great.
